About the Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen French fries

  • 2 cups cheese curds

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped kimchi, drained

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions, for garnish

For the gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Cook the frozen French fries according to the package instructions, ensuring they are crispy and golden brown.

Step 2

While the fries are cooking, prepare the gravy. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, whisking constantly for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.

Step 3

Gradually pour in the beef or vegetable broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Add the soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder, and continue whisking until the mixture reaches a smooth consistency.

Step 4

Allow the gravy to come to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5

Assemble the poutine: Spread the cooked French fries on a serving platter or individual plates. Evenly distribute the cheese curds over the fries, followed by the chopped kimchi.

Step 6

Pour the hot gravy over the fries, cheese curds, and kimchi, ensuring everything is well coated. Garnish with chopped green onions.

Step 7

Serve the Kimchi Poutine immediately and enjoy this delicious fusion of flavors!
